Development of Intelligent Body Assembly System(IBS)
To thoroughly materialize our ideas of "flexible production system", "multi-model mixed production" and "short-period development of new products", we have introduced "IBS (Intelligent Body Assembly System)" that is "the vehicle body assembly line which we can be proud of to the world", and put this system into actual operation.
The main features of IBS are:

@ Realization of multi-model mixed production line which can fabricate various types of vehicle models ranging from compact cars to large one-box cars (capable of fabricating eight different models)
A Realization of a highly versatile vehicle body assembly line where NC locators and robots play the key roles
B Promotion of labor force reduction by the robotized welding operation and automatized parts handling (100% automatization of major operations except some minor parts supply operations)
C Adoption of off-line robot teaching by the use of Robot-Simulation CAD
D Assurance of high quality by the centralized control of vehicle body accuracy automatic measurement and welding conditions
E Securing of comfortable workplace environment by means of the automatization of welding operations and operations which require mental concentration
F Realization of production sequence/results control and real-time monitoring of line operation through the information network (including the functions for recording line failure information and failure trend analysis)
G Shorter preparation period for new model development,
 and so on.
After the first IBS line was completed in the District 2, Shonan Plant, IBS lines were introduced successively into the District 1, Shonan Plant and Kyoto Plant. We have been expanding the subject processes of IBS to promote realization of further versatile vehicle body assembly plants.
